The history of pneumatic tires in Tunisia

1966 :

Creation by Firestone-Tunisia à Menzel Bourguiba of a manufacturing plant of the conventional type for commercial vehicles, semi-trucks, agricultural vehicles and civil engineering.

1979 :

Identification phase of the integrated tire manufacturing project in Tunisia by the Tunisian Economic Development Bank, and choice of technical relevance.

1980 :

Nationalization of Firestone-Tunisia under the name National Society of Pneumatics(SONAP).
Start of studies for the creation in Tunisia of a new modern unit for the manufacture, under Pirelli license, of tires with radial textile structure for commercial and heavy goods vehicles.

1983 :

Construction started for the TIP factory in M'Saken.

1986 :

Started manufacturing AMINE, tires, tourism, vans, light transport and semi trucks with metal belted radial structure.

1990 :

Started manufacturing tires for the ‘Tour of the 70’s’ serie at STIP 1 M'Saken.

1992 :

Purchase by STIP of the National Society of Pneumatics SONAP).

1997 :

Started implementing the Quality Assurance System according to the ISO-9002/1994 Standard.
Approval of STIP 1 products (series 80 and 70) according to the European Regulations and Standards ECE-30 (ISI-10121) / ECE -54 (ISO-10454) and American Standards DOT.

1998 :

Started manufacturing the Tour 65 Series tires STIP 1 M'Saken.
STIP is certified ISO-9002/1994 by the certification body TUV CERT.

2000 :

Approval of STIP 1 products (series 65) according to the European Regulations and Standards ECE-30 (ISO-10121) / ECE-54 (ISO-10454) and American Standards DOT.

2001 :

TIP signs a contract with PIRELLI to transfer the All Steel know-how for manufacturing truck tires.
Signature with CITET for an assistance agreement to set up an SME for STIP according to the ISO-14001/1996 reference.
Started implementing our Integrated Quality and Environment Management System (QMS) according to the ISO-9001/2000 and ISO-14001/1996 standards. Renewal of the ISO-9002 certification by the TUV CERT Certification Body.

2002 :

Started construction for the new All Steel tire manufacturing unit at STIP 1 M'Saken.

2003 :

STIP 1 M'Saken starts manufacturing All Steel Heavy Duty tires.
The STIP Integrated System (ETS) is ISO-9001/2000 - ISO-14001/1996 certified by the TUV CERT Certification Body.

2005 :

Approval of STIP 1 products (Heavy Truck All Steel) according to the European Regulations and Standards ECE-30 (ISO-10121) / ECE-54 (ISO-10454) and American Standards DOT.

2006 :

STIP obtains the renewal of the certification of System integrated (SMQE) according to the Referential ISO-9001/2000 - ISO-14001/2004 by the certification organization TUV CERT.

2007 :

Implementation of the sanitation program for improvement.
STIP successfully passes the TUV CERT audit of its Integrated System (SMQE) according to the ISO-9001/2000 and ISO-14001/2004 standards.
The STIP participates in the Grand Prix of the President of the Republic for the Promotion of Quality.

2008 :

Successful completion of the 2nd SMQE Surveillance Audit - In compliance with the ISO-9001/2000 - ISO-14001/2004 standards.
Implementation of the tools for the conversion of our (SMQE) according to ISO-9001/2008 standards - ISO-14001 / 2004.

2009 :

Successful completion in May 2009 of the Renewal Audit of our SMQE - In compliance with the ISO-9001/2008 - ISO-14001/2004 standards.

2010 :

Successful Supervision Audit of our SMQE in May 2010 - By complying with the ISO-9001/2008 - ISO-14001/2004 standards.
First prize for environmental master case study "GEP" awarded by CITET to STIP.

Target at the end of 2012 :

Implementation of tools for integrating our Quality Management System (QMS) according to ISO / TS-16949 Reconversion of our (SMQES) according to ISO-9001/2008 - ISO-14001 / 2004 and OHAS-18001/2007.
